International_World map for Manifesto_Ungdommens Røde Kors_2022

The Danish Red Cross Youth is the largest humanitarian youth organization in Denmark with 4.000 young volunteers and more than 10.000 children and young people participating at our social activities. We are a part of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, and the purpose of The Danish Red Cross Youth is to improve the conditions and daily lives of vulnerable children and young people locally, nationally, and internationally.

In our international engagement we are always working closely with The Danish Red Cross. We are collaborating with the respective Red Cross and Red Crescent national society in each country. The local partnership ensures both the sustainability of the activities and ensures a focus on the most important needs in the individual local area.

The Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement consist of more than 15 million volunteers globally. 50 percent of these volunteers are young people under the age of 30. In other words, the RC/RC Movement is the worlds’ largest humanitarian youth movement. These young people are not only in position to be future humanitarians, they are very often already at the very forefront of the humanitarian actions and social change. Not only does young volunteers take on key responsibility and tasks within the RC/RC Movement, they also carry the potential for new ways of thinking and acting. Youth jump headfirst onto new challenges and possibilities and use their energy to expand their global network and invent innovative, new solutions and opportunities.

    At DRC-Y, we believe that

    • IF young people have capacity, skills, and experience to lead their own development
    • AND the organizational platform and supportive structures
    • AND access to (be) decision makers to make their voices heard
    • THEN they will actively engage in civil society and act as change agents, identifying and responding to needs in their local communities
    • AND cooperate among youth to have their voices heard by local and national duty bearers, contributing to increased opportunities for young people

The Danish Red Cross Youth are always working youth-to-youth and based on the needs of the specific National Society with well tested methodologies.
